The poster outlines the background, development, delivery and impact of a series of Learner Strategies Development sessions presented in conjunction with students' use of the ILC (Independent Learning Centre), the self-access facility of AUT (Auckland University of Technology) International House. The sessions are intended to help students to do the following: develop their ability to study autonomously; broaden their repertoire of skills associated with grammar and vocabulary learning; help enable them to improve specific language skills independently; exploit learning opportunities provided by the wider linguistic environment more effectively. Questionnaires and interviews provide feedback on the effectiveness of the sessions.
