Short paper (30 minutes)
Justin Pool (Osaka Kyoiku University)
This presentation focuses on a mixed methods approach using survey data collected from over 700 high school students over two years who partook in regular English journal writing homework for three semesters each. Surveys indicate that learners perceived an increase in their speed of writing English, ease of writing, and their grammatical accuracy. These results were stronger among students who wrote more journals. The presentation will explain how to implement such homework, the linguistic principles behind it, and include learner comments indicating their reflections, including numerous students indicating a desire to continue writing, indicating a springboard for independent study.
