Abstract
Advising in language learning aims to promote learner autonomy by facilitating intentional dialogue which helps learners to think deeply about their learning. The presenters explain the concept of advising in language learning and facilitate a practical workshop where participants can learn some basic advising strategies (repeating, restating, summarizing, empathizing, complimenting, and metaphors) for helping learners to engage themselves in reflection. The workshop will also provide an opportunity to try the strategies and reflect on the impact the dialogue may have on learning.
