Short paper (30 minutes)
Bernadette Denston (UCL Centre for Languages & International Education (CLIE) – Self-Access Centre (SAC))
This presentation focuses on my explorative work studying how language learners at a self-access centre in London make use of the varied opportunities available to them for 'Learning Beyond the Classroom' or 'LBC'. Alongside an overview of the settings and materials available to the learners I work with, I will also share data collected on how students make use of the learning opportunities available and how they connect them to their classroom learning. Throughout the presentation, comparisons will be drawn between learning opportunities in self-access in Japan and the UK.
