Short paper (30 minutes)
Shirley Humphrey (Shantou University)
Learning a language is rather like putting together a puzzle. The meaning we assign to words, like agency and independence, defines not only our strategies for learning but also for teaching. Just like pieces of a complex jigsaw puzzle, there are many interconnected parts. This research strives to identify the critical puzzle pieces that lead to successful outcomes through personal interviews with students and teachers (both foreign and domestic) at a Chinese university. By looking at the similarities and differences in responses between these three groups, we can focus our energy on the pieces that lead to future success.
