Abstract
This presentation reports on a qualitative case study about how online language learning sites supported two L2 learners in their self-directed learning. The study draws on interview data and a 6-month examination of the participants' practices in Lang-8 learning individual target language(s). In Lang-8, users post a journal in their target language(s) and correct other users of their native language(s). Evidence from this case study indicates that an Ecological Approach (van Lier, 2004) can play an essential role in understanding a blended learning environment for language development in web 2.0 and concurrent self-directed learning.
