Student staff often share feelings of frustration regarding conversation program participants, the behavior of fellow staff, and their own facilitation and language skills. This presentation will examine the beliefs of student staff in a self-access learning center's "English Café" based on reflective writing and discussions with an advisor. The ways in which advisors can support student staff in channeling negative feelings into motivation to improve facilitation skills and the café environment will also be explored. Can staff come to understand the value of reflections? Can these reflections be used to enhance self-awareness or further develop personal or peer autonomy?
