Most teachers are familiar with the hopeful expectations that come with teaching a new course or program, but some may also admit to experiencing feelings of terror. In this presentation, I will detail an exploratory approach that I took over the course of a semester to reflect on establishing a community of learning with groups of learners in an EAP undergraduate course that I taught for the first time. In this presentation we will discuss how we might use reflective practices and dialogue with students to become better acquainted with our learners in order to establish cohesive communities of learning.
