This workshop aims to work with participants to outline the figurative resources that students bring to the classroom and lay out the outlines of an L2 metaphor pedagogy. Employing Vygotsky's concept of 'mediation', we will explore the possibilities of a EFL writing curriculum that uses extended metaphors as a way of providing structure to longer form compositions, a notable weakness for Japanese students. A curriculum developed by the presenter over the past 5 years will be presented and participants will be encouraged to explore the possibilities that metaphor can bring to the EFL writing classroom.
